Frequently Asked Service Questions
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT
The most common reason for the check engine warning light to come on is a loose gas cap. Always remember to tighten the cap until it clicks. If the check engine light comes on steady it is OK to drive the car until you can arrange an appointment for service. If the light is flashing the car should be driven immediately to the nearest Toyota dealership. DO NOT continue to drive your vehicle with a flashing check engine light as damage may occur.
LOW TIRE PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT
This system monitors the pressure in all of the tires, including the spare tire. If the light comes on, check the air pressure in each tire. Please remember, when the weather turns colder the air pressure may decrease causing the tire pressure indicator light to come on.
BRAKE NOISES
The disc brake pads on your vehicle are of superior quality and contain metal particles in the material which makes them more durable and may cause them to make noise from time to time.
TRANSMISSION SHIFTING
The transmission will not shift into the highest gear until the engine temperature reaches the normal operating range. This causes the engine's RPM's to rev higher reach normal operating range faster.
IGNITION KEY STUCK
Turning the steering slightly after the ignition key is removed may activate the steering wheel lock mechanism. When this happens, it may be difficult to turn the ignition key. When this occurs, gently turn the steering wheel from side -to- side with one hand while simultaneously turning the ignition key with the other hand.
GLOVE BOX LIGHTS
On some models, the glove compartment lights and courtesy lights only operate with the headlights on.
REAR DOORS WILL NOT OPEN
If the rear doors will not open from the inside the childproof locks may have been accidentally switched on. The childproof switch is located on the inside edge of both rear doors.
NOISES
When turning off your vehicle, you may hear "ticking" noices in your exhaust system as the hot metal cools.
POWER WINDOWS
If power windows do not operate from their individual door switches, the power window lock button may may be in the "on" position. This feature prevents children from opening the windows. The power window lock button is located on the driver's door above the window switches. When this button is depressed, it makes the passenger winder controls inoperatable.
DASH LIGHTS
Lights on the instrument cluster have a dimming feature to turn it to the appropriate brightness.Consult your owners manual to locate this switch and turn it to reactivate the dash lights.
TRUNK RELEASE
On some models, the inside trunk release will not work if the trunk lock was set to the valet mode. This feature is designed so that a valet attendent does not have access to your trunk. Please consult your owner's manual for instructions that pertain to your particular model.
